A question for those in California

Otherwise, for anyone else who has travelled through LA International airport at some point: do the guards really have the words LAX SECURITY on their ID tags?

Because if so, I think it's the best thing ever.

They probably did pre-9/11. Now, I'm pretty sure airport security falls under the jurisdiction of the good ol' Department of Homeland Security.
